We love sharing stories about life at SYMPOSIUM coffee on the blog, and this week we thought we’d take some time to share a little bit of what goes on in a typical day in our lives! This week we’re starting off with Paul, and a little insight into a day at SYMPOSIUM coffee and our roastery.
The day usually starts off in the same way: with a shower and a mocha made with our home bean to cup machine and a cup of tea for my wife, Wendy. Once we’ve woken up a bit (thanks, SYMPOSIUM coffee!), we let our dog Cooper out and I’ll take him for a walk.
The SYMPOSIUM Roastery
First thing, I make sure to start up our SYMPOSIUM roastery, which is located right here in the North-East of Scotland. In the meantime, I begin the process of measuring and mixing our beans together in our Signature recipe ready for roasting.
At around 09:30, I head out to post our online orders – make sure to check out our online store and grab yourself a bag of SYMPOSIUM coffee to enjoy at home!
Lockdown Life
Lockdown has definitely brought around some challenges, but it’s been great to continue delivering our signature Great Coffee, Great Food, Great Service to the people of the north east. During the day, I work with my two eldest daughters in our Queen Street shop, offering our Click & Collect service. It’s been so exciting being open once again for sit-in – we’ve loved welcoming our favourite customers back to the shop! Our coffee delivery service is still running too – why not treat yourself or a friend to a SYMPOSIUM for lunch?
After I’m done at the shop, it’s time to catch up with the other director – my wife, Wendy. This is a really important part of the day-to-day operations – it gives us a chance to catch up on emails and other important business!
Once work is wrapped up for the day, I spend time with my wife and our four amazing girls. Family time is a big part of our routine, and anyone who knows us will know there’s never a dull moment in our house!
Free time
In my spare time, I love to read; particularly books about business, or inspirational biographies. There’s plenty more I get up to during the day too, from driving my car, roasting coffee in the evenings and mowing the grass in the garden. It’s no surprise that we rely on amazing coffee to help power us through the day! After all that, I’m shattered, and it’s off to bed to get a good night’s sleep in before another busy day.
Hopefully this day in the life has given you an interesting insight into some of the stuff I get up to in our shops and roastery. My job definitely keeps me busy, but wouldn’t have it any other way. I feel very lucky to be able to work alongside my wife and daughters doing something I love so much – delivering delicious SYMPOSIUM coffee to YOU!
